Netanyahu Confirms Hostage Deal; Supreme Court May Rule on TikTok Ban Appeal

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has confirmed a deal with the Hamas terrorist group to return hostages and end 15 months of fighting. The announcement comes after fears the deal would collapse at the last minute. A cease-fire will take effect on Sunday and will involve two stages. In the first stage, 33 Israeli hostages—all women and children—are set to return home.

The U.S. Supreme Court could decide on Friday whether TikTok will be forced to shut down in the United States. The justices are weighing a challenge to free speech against national security concerns. President-elect Donald Trump could also be exploring options to “preserve” the app, according to incoming national security adviser Mike Waltz.

In the latest in a series of farewell events, President Joe Biden received a send-off from the Armed Forces with a ceremony at the Department of Defense on Thursday afternoon, hosted by the secretary of defense and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Representatives from all branches of the U.S. military attended, along with Vice President Kamala Harris and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff. Harris added her signature on Thursday to the desk in the Vice Presidential Ceremonial Room, a tradition that goes back to the 1940s.
