More Than 100 Arrests So Far in Trump’s DC Crime Crackdown; Trump Warns of ‘Severe Consequences’ for Russia | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 14)
Four hundred National Guard service members have now been deployed to the District of Columbia to support President Donald Trump’s crackdown on crime in the nation’s capital. The White House says that more than 100 arrests have been made so far, with 1,450 law enforcement officers taking part in Wednesday’s operations. The crackdown is tied to the “District of Columbia Safe and Beautiful Task Force” that the president created with an executive order in March.
Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are set to meet tomorrow in Alaska to discuss plans to end the war in Ukraine. Trump has warned of “severe consequences” for Russia if no progress is made after the meeting. Along with Ukraine, European allies have been calling on Trump to include Kyiv in the peace process. The president says there could be a three-way meeting shortly after tomorrow’s summit, suggesting that a single meeting would not be enough.
Trump is targeting drugs, monopolies, and space flight with three new executive orders. He has ordered the building up of a U.S. reserve of key pharmaceutical ingredients to reduce reliance on China. Trump also scrapped a Biden-era antitrust push in favor of targeted competition measures, and he’s streamlining licenses to boost U.S. commercial space activity by up to 30 percent.
