Trump Heading to Alaska to Meet With Putin; Senators Call for Meta Probe Over Chatbot Conversations | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 15)
President Donald Trump departed for Alaska on Friday morning for a high-stakes meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where the U.S. president will be looking to strike a deal to end the war in Ukraine. The meeting will take place at around 3 p.m. ET, followed by a joint press conference with the two leaders. Trump suggested that a successful summit could lead to a second meeting that would include Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Senators are calling for Meta to be investigated over its chatbot conversations. A Reuters report indicated that Meta chatbots were able to “engage a child in conversations that are romantic or sensual,” and generate incorrect medical information. In a post on X, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) wrote that “only after Meta got CAUGHT did it retract portions of its company doc that deemed it ‘permissible for chatbots to flirt and engage in romantic roleplay with children.’” The Senator is calling for an immediate investigation.
Illegal immigration and crime are front and center in Washington, with Attorney General Pam Bondi vowing that Washington will not remain a sanctuary city. Bondi also sent demand letters to more than 30 jurisdictions that currently limit cooperation with federal immigration enforcement. She says Trump’s federal takeover of D.C. police is working, and she named Drug Enforcement Administration head Terry Cole as “Emergency Police Commissioner.”
