Biden, Harris Reflect on Past, Look to Future; DHS Says Government Is Addressing Drone Mystery

President Joe Biden spoke alongside Vice President Kamala Harris at a Democratic National Convention holiday party in Washington on Sunday. Biden said he will leave office with the United States in better shape than it was four years ago, highlighting his administration’s achievements. Harris emphasized that her presidential campaign showed how united Democratic supporters were. Thousands are feared dead in the French territory of Mayotte in the Indian Ocean after the island was hit by Cyclone Chido over the weekend. France dispatched rescue teams and medical personnel to Mayotte, which is located off the east coast of Africa. The storm brought winds of more than 124 mph, making it the strongest storm to hit the island in more than 90 years.

Under mounting pressure to tell the public more, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has said authorities have taken action to address the mystery drone sightings. Lawmakers are gearing up to pass legislation to expand authority to deal with unmanned aerial objects.
