Russia Detains Suspect Over Killing of Top General; Madison Mourns Victims of Deadly School Shooting

Russia has detained a suspect after a top Russian general was killed by a bomb hidden in a scooter outside his apartment building. Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov was the chief of the Russian military’s nuclear, biological, and chemical protection forces. Ukraine had accused him of being responsible for the use of chemical weapons against Ukrainian troops—something Moscow denies. NTD sat down with Kervin Aucoin, a former lead ISR coordinator for the U.S. Army in Europe, to talk about what we know so far about the killing.

Residents in Madison, Wisconsin, are in mourning after Monday’s deadly school shooting. A vigil held yesterday honored the victims of the attack at the Abundant Life Christian School. Police say that 15-year-old Natalie Rupnow killed a student and a teacher before taking her own life. Six others were injured, including two with critical injuries, and investigators are now examining Rupnow’s devices and online activity. Community leaders and residents called for unity to prevent further violence.

Lawmakers unveiled a stop-gap spending bill on Tuesday night that will fund the government through March 14, 2025, averting a government shutdown. Some Republicans expressed frustration over House Speaker Mike Johnson’s recent negotiations, with a number of provisions tacked onto the bill meant to simply extend current funding levels to avoid a shutdown.
