Senate Confirms Russell Vought as Budget Director; Trump Creates ‘Anti-Christian Bias’ Task Force

After an all-night session, the Senate voted along party lines to confirm Russell Vought as head of the Office of Management and Budget. Democrats voiced their opposition to Vought for his involvement in Project 2025, while Republicans said he’s the best choice to help trim the federal budget.

President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new White House faith office on Thursday and has directed U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi to lead a task force to eradicate what he called “anti-Christian bias” in the federal government. The announcement came after Trump spoke at two prayer breakfasts, where he discussed his own faith and the important role religion plays within the nation.

Republicans are working through the details of a massive bill to reform tax, energy, and border policies, but disagreements within the party over spending cuts have slowed the process. Trump met with House Republicans yesterday to help fast-track the negotiations. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) says a framework will be released soon, and a mark-up of the text is expected next week.
