Trump Cabinet Nominees Face Senate Confirmation Hearings; LA Wildfire Death Toll Rises to 25

Senate confirmation hearings for some of President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet nominees are taking place on Wednesday, such as for Sen. Marco Rubio for secretary of state, Pamela Bondi for attorney general, and Chris Wright for energy secretary. NTD spoke to Cully Stimson, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, to discuss some of the nominees’ qualifications.

The deadly wildfires in Los Angeles have now claimed at least 25 lives. The Eaton Fire in Altadena is 35 percent contained, while around 18 percent of the fire in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles is contained. Search teams aided by sniffer dogs continue to comb through the destruction. As the region braces for dangerous winds, stories of resilience are emerging, with some homes surviving due to their fire-resistant designs.

South Korea’s impeached president, Yoon Suk Yeol, was detained in a massive law enforcement operation at the presidential compound on Wednesday morning. A motorcade then took him to the country’s anti-corruption agency, where he could be questioned for 48 hours. Law enforcement will need a new warrant to detain him for longer while he continues to be investigated.
