Biden Delivers Farewell Address to the Nation; Israel and Hamas Reach Cease-Fire Agreement

President Joe Biden has delivered a farewell address to the nation, marking the end of his five-decades-long political career. He called for unity while warning of growing dangers from concentrated wealth and power. Biden also criticized misinformation and social media while emphasizing the need for strict governance of artificial intelligence.

Israel and the Hamas terrorist group have reached a cease-fire and hostage release deal. Under phase one of the agreement, Hamas will release 33 hostages over six weeks, while Israeli forces will withdraw from populated areas of Gaza and release an undisclosed number of Palestinian prisoners. NTD spoke with Gerard Filitti, a Middle East affairs analyst, to discuss some of the stumbling blocks that could crop up before the agreement goes into effect.

The Senate’s confirmation hearings for President-elect Donald Trump’s new Cabinet continue with Scott Bessent, Trump’s choice for Treasury secretary. Bessent is likely to face questions about Trump’s tariff plans. Trump’s nominee for secretary of the interior, former North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, may be asked about his proposed role as head of a new National Energy Council. In addition, the hearing for Trump’s attorney general nominee Pam Bondi will enter its second day.
