New California Fire Forces Thousands to Evacuate; Trump Sending 1,500 Troops to Southern Border
Fire crews have been working overnight to contain a new wildfire that broke out in the Castaic Lake area north of Los Angeles on Wednesday. Dubbed the Hughes Fire, the blaze spread over a vast area in a matter of hours, even as firefighters battled to contain the two fires still burning in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection has mobilized the National Guard’s fleet of firefighting aircraft.
The Pentagon is sending 1,500 active-duty troops to the Southern border, putting in motion plans that President Donald Trump laid out in one of his recent executive orders. Border czar Tom Homan has also confirmed that deportations have already begun. NTD spoke with Victor Avila, a retired special agent with HSI–ICE for the latest update on the situation at the border.
A historic winter storm has transformed over 1,500 miles of the Deep South and Gulf Coast into a winter wonderland, causing travel disruptions and canceled flights, and leaving thousands of people stranded. The storm has caused structural damage to some buildings, and crews are still working on clearing the snow. Local officials are warning residents to avoid driving due to dangerous road conditions as melted snow refroze into ice overnight.
