Judge Blocks Trump’s Birthright Citizenship Order; House Passes Born-Alive Bill After Senate Blocks It
Federal judge John Coughenour temporarily blocked President Donald Trump’s executive order to end automatic citizenship for the children of illegal immigrants on Thursday. Rep. Brian Babin (R-Texas) had introduced a bill to restrict birthright citizenship on Jan. 21. Hundreds of protestors gathered in Los Angeles and Las Vegas to protest the proposed measures.
A bill to require health care providers to try to save the life of a baby born alive during an attempted abortion passed the House on Thursday, despite Democrats shooting it down in the Senate, where they likened the bill to a reproductive surveillance act. The congressional action comes as thousands of pro-life advocates flood Washington on Friday for the annual March for Life. Trump is expected to speak to the March for Life attendees by video link, with Vice President JD Vance to appear in person.
After working day and night, firefighting crews have brought a rapidly spreading wildfire under control in the area near Castaic Lake north of Los Angeles. Rain this weekend could bring relief to firefighters, but it could also spread toxic ash from burned areas and potentially cause landslides. California has appropriated $2.5 billion for relief and recovery.
