Legal Battle Over Trump’s Emergency Tariffs; Boulder Attack Suspect Charged With Hate Crime | NTD Good Morning (June 3)

The Trump administration is asking an appeals court to pause a second ruling against President Donald Trump’s emergency tariffs amid a broader legal battle and mounting pressure on U.S.–China trade talks. Tensions have risen further after China imposed export controls on critical minerals, with U.S. Treasury officials saying Beijing is stalling key shipments. Meanwhile, the White House is pushing trade partners to finalize deals by July 9.

Following the firebomb attack on pro-Israel protestors in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday, authorities are charging 45-year-old Mohamed Soliman with a federal hate crime. A Homeland Security spokeswoman said the suspect was in the country illegally, having overstayed a tourist visa that expired in February 2023. A dozen victims have been identified in the attack, but local police have said that none of the victims have died. Soliman’s next court appearance is set for Thursday, when charges will be filed.

Russia and Ukraine completed a second round of peace talks on June 2, agreeing on an exchange of sick and seriously wounded prisoners of war as well as of young soldiers between the ages of 18 and 25, regardless of the number. The two countries also discussed a possible meeting between the presidents of Russia and Ukraine. They also exchanged draft documents at the meeting, which detailed proposals for lasting peace. Ukraine said it would take a week to analyze the Russian document.
