Trump Lands in Beijing Ahead of Xi Meeting; US Passenger With Hantavirus Symptoms Tests Negative | NTD Good Morning (May 13)
U.S. President Donald Trump landed in Beijing on May 13 ahead of a meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The U.S. president was greeted on a red carpet during a welcoming ceremony. Trump was also traveling with top officials and business leaders, including Elon Musk and Jensen Huang. Trump is expected to discuss trade, the Iran war, and Taiwan.
The Department of Health and Human Services says that one U.S. passenger who showed symptoms tested negative for hantavirus. That passenger and their partner are currently being monitored in Atlanta, Georgia, while the other 16 Americans are asymptomatic. The CDC says exposed passengers are being monitored by public health officials in multiple states and that the overall risk to the American public remains extremely low.
Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show annual inflation rose to 3.8 percent in April. Core inflation, which excludes volatile energy and food prices, edged up to 2.8 percent. On a month-to-month basis, April prices rose 0.6 percent from March, with gas prices rising 5.4 percent. Grocery prices rose 0.7 percent. Labor Department data showed gas prices are up more than 28 percent from a year ago.
