FBI Director Kash Patel to Testify Before Lawmakers; Trump to Deploy Crime Task Force in Memphis | NTD Good Morning (Sept. 16)

FBI Director Kash Patel is testifying in front of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Tuesday, with lawmakers saying issues surrounding the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s assassination will be a top concern. Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) said he will be asking about the FBI’s efforts to investigate terrorist organizations with political motives, like Antifa.

President Donald Trump invited Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee to the Oval Office on Monday to announce a “Memphis Safe Task Force” and National Guard deployment similar to the measures used in Washington. The FBI, Drug Enforcement Administration, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Department of Health and Human Services, and U.S. Marshals will join, with Attorney General Pam Bondi overseeing the deployment. The president said Chicago could be next.

Trump has filed a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, four of its reporters, and publisher Penguin Random House for alleged defamation and reputational damage. The suit cites articles and a 2024 book, “Lucky Loser,” which Trump says contain fabrications and distortions. His lawyers argue the publications caused massive harm to his personal and business reputation.
