China Responds to US Tariffs; DOGE Head Elon Musk Says USAID Will Be Shut Down
President Donald Trump said he has reached an agreement with Mexico and Canada to pause his tariffs for a month. Meanwhile, Trump’s 10 percent tariffs on China have gone into effect, with the communist nation responding with counter-tariffs. NTD spoke with Zach Mottl, chair of the Coalition for a Prosperous America and president of Atlas Tool Works, about the impact of Trump’s tariff on both China and the United States.
Elon Musk says Trump has agreed with the shutdown of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of his administration’s plan to cut wasteful government spending. USAID staffers were told to stay out of the agency’s headquarters, while Secretary of State Marco Rubio has taken over as acting chief.
El Salvador has offered to accept deported illegal immigrants of any nationality and even offered to house convicted criminals, including U.S. citizens, for a fee. Rubio has also urged the Central American country to reject Chinese investment. Meanwhile, Trump has reignited debate over the Panama Canal, suggesting the United States could retake it due to China’s growing influence in the region.
