Mudslides, Flash Floods Hit LA Area; Senate Continues With Cabinet Confirmations and Hearings
Los Angeles area residents have been recovering from the recent wildfires but must now deal with flooding and mudslides. Officials say multiple counties are under evacuation warnings and orders, with mudslides closing some parts of the Pacific Coast Highway on Thursday. Sandbags and barriers have been put up in an effort to protect homes from torrential rain and flooding.
The Senate confirmed Brooke Rollins as secretary of agriculture on Thursday, while President Donald Trump’s nominee for education secretary, Linda McMahon, testified at her own hearing. The Senate Judiciary Committee also voted to advance the nomination of Kash Patel to be the next director of the FBI.
The Senate has confirmed Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as the new Health and Human Services secretary. He was sworn in at the Oval Office shortly after the 52–48 vote.
