Rubio in Saudi Arabia for Ukraine Peace Talks; Trump Admin Fires Over 1,000 NIH Employees

Secretary of State Marco Rubio is in Saudi Arabia ahead of key talks with Russian officials on ending the war in Ukraine. The meetings follow a call between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, with Trump pushing for negotiations. Meanwhile, the UK says it is ready to send troops to enforce a peace agreement. European leaders will hold an emergency summit on Monday to discuss their role in the process.

As of Monday morning, more than 1,000 workers have been fired from the National Institutes of Health, down from an earlier estimate of 1,500. The workers will be put on administrative leave for four weeks before being officially terminated. Meanwhile, almost 50 workers have been dismissed at the National Nuclear Security Administration. Weather forecasters say an arctic blast could bring potentially record-setting cold to the United States this week. Wind chills are predicted to hit minus 50 degrees F near the Canadian border over the next few days, and below zero in parts of Texas. This is following a deadly weekend storm that killed at least 10 people in the Eastern United States.
