Trump Says Major US–UK Trade Agreement Reached; Dozens Arrested in Columbia University Protest | NTD Good Morning (May 8)
President Donald Trump has said the United States has reached a “full and comprehensive” trade agreement with the United Kingdom. In a post on Truth Social, Trump called it a landmark deal that will “cement the relationship” between the two nations for years to come, adding that it’s the first of several major trade deals currently in the works. He did not release specific details about the agreement. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to speak about the negotiations on Thursday.
Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters were arrested at Columbia University on Wednesday after occupying the Butler Library, prompting a police sweep through the building. The NYPD detained 40 to 50 students, many with plastic zip-ties. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the visa statuses of some of the foreign student protesters were under review. Meanwhile, the FBI charged a New York man with federal hate crimes for allegedly assaulting Jewish individuals during anti-Israel protests.
The leader of China’s communist regime arrived in Moscow on Wednesday to attend Russian celebrations commemorating 80 years since the end of World War II. Ukraine, meanwhile, continued its attacks on Russia’s capital for a second consecutive day, after the Kremlin requested a three-day cease-fire for this week’s celebrations. Russia is also continuing its attacks on Ukraine’s capital city of Kyiv. Ukrainian officials say that at least two civilians are dead after attacks early Wednesday.
