Rare May Nor’easter Chills Holiday Weekend; HHS Accuses Columbia University of Civil Rights Violations | NTD Good Morning (May 23)

A rare May nor’easter is forecast to bring gloomy skies and chilly temperatures on the run-in to Memorial Day weekend. It’s expected to deliver torrential rain and gusty winds to the Northeast and parts of the Mid-Atlantic Coast, strengthening as it slowly pushes toward New England. Some rain will linger into Sunday.

The Trump administration says Columbia University violated federal civil rights law by failing to protect Jewish students from anti-Semitic harassment. The Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights found Columbia in violation of Title VI. It cited threats, vandalism, and protest rule violations. Columbia says it’s working with the government to address the concerns.

The man accused of killing two Israeli Embassy staffers at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington has been charged with first-degree murder. The office of the U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia said it will investigate the killings as a hate crime and an act of terrorism. Members of Congress visited the Museum on Thursday to offer their support and condolences.
