Trump Bans New Visa Entries From 12 Countries; New Harvard International Student Visas Blocked | NTD Good Morning (June 5)
President Donald Trump has issued sweeping travel restrictions on citizens of several countries, citing national security concerns. Twelve countries face full visa suspensions, including Afghanistan, Iran, and Chad. Seven others, including Cuba and Venezuela, face partial bans. The White House says the restrictions target nations with high visa overstay rates and poor vetting systems. The move follows a firebombing attack allegedly by an Egyptian national who had overstayed his visa.
The Trump administration has also suspended visas for new international students at Harvard, citing national security concerns and alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party. The move intensifies a legal battle over federal funding. Meanwhile, Columbia University is under federal scrutiny for allegedly failing to protect Jewish students from discrimination, while its accreditation is also at risk.
The Congressional Budget Office now says the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ would add more than $2 trillion to the national debt. The White House is refuting those claims, saying the bill will include $1.6 trillion in savings and that the debt will be offset by tariff revenue. The bill is a centerpiece of Trump’s legislative agenda. It aims to boost funding for defense and border control and make permanent Trump’s 2017 tax cuts.
