SpaceX Starship Completes Successful Test Flight; Trump’s 50 Percent Tariffs on India Take Effect | NTD Good Morning (Aug. 27)

SpaceX’s Starship rocket has completed its 10th test flight after blasting off from south Texas on Tuesday. For the first time, Starship deployed mock satellites in orbit, while its Super Heavy booster splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean. The spacecraft itself survived a fiery reentry before hitting the Indian Ocean, a milestone after earlier failures. NASA is counting on Starship for future moon landings, and Elon Musk says it’s key to one day reaching Mars.

A new, additional 25 percent tariff on India took effect at midnight, doubling duties on many imports to 50 percent. President Donald Trump signed the order earlier this month, citing India’s continued oil purchases from Russia. India has become one of Moscow’s top trading partners since the 2022 invasion of Ukraine, with nearly $70 billion in annual trade.

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook has said she’ll sue to block Trump from firing her. Cook has been accused of mortgage fraud by the Trump administration. Trump has said she must go, alleging misrepresentations on loan documents, but the Fed says Cook should remain in her seat until the courts decide.
