US, Iran Reach Peace Deal; Trump Pushes SAVE America Act for FISA Renewal | NTD Good Morning (June 15)
President Donald Trump says a peace deal between the United States and Iran has been reached. In a post on Truth Social, the president announced what he called the “toll free opening” of the Strait of Hormuz and the “immediate removal” of the U.S. naval blockade. Iran has signaled it may delay implementing parts of the agreement until the formal signing takes place. The agreement also sets a 60-day framework to address Iran’s nuclear program, including its highly enriched uranium stockpile.
Trump on Sunday said that he wants Congress to pass an election security bill as part of extending a key section of a surveillance law that lapsed last week. FISA section 702 authorizes the government to collect data on foreign nationals located outside the United States. A vote to renew that authority failed on the House floor last week as Democrats protested the president’s choice of Bill Pulte to serve as a temporary director of national intelligence. “I’m against FISA if it doesn’t come with The Save America Act (Full version!) firmly attached to it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday, referring to a bill designed to combat voter fraud that has stalled in the Senate.
American singer and comedian Oliver Tree is among six people who died when two helicopters collided over Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. Authorities say the aircraft crashed in the city’s western zone, killing everyone on board. An Argentine YouTuber, Gaspar Prim Díaz, known online as Gaspi, was also among the victims. Rio’s military fire department said one of the helicopters came down in the parking lot of an electric car dealership, igniting a fire. Officials have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision.
