Investigation into Amazon Cargo Plane Crash Begins; GOP Midterm Convention in Dallas This Week | NTD Good Morning (Sept. 7)

An Amazon cargo plane went off a runway at Miami International Airport on Sept. 6, hitting multiple vehicles and leaving at least five people dead. Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins said in a news conference that five more people are injured. Amazon is still gathering details about what happened, company spokesperson Kelly Nantel said. The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the crash.

The Republican Party will hold a first-of-a-kind midterm convention in Dallas this week. The two-day convention begins just after Labor Day on Monday, when campaigns typically start their final sprint toward Election Day.

“President Trump turns out voters like no other candidate, and this convention will provide the momentum needed to expand our majorities in November,” Republican National Committee spokesperson Natalie Baldassarre said in a statement.

Nepal held a day of mourning Monday to remember those killed in the Aug. 26 floods, with flags lowered at government offices and families concluding mourning rituals. Monday was the 13th day since the flooding which killed more than 1,300 people in Nepal and Tibet and left some 5,000 missing, including foreigners, according to Nepal’s disaster management agency.

In predominantly Hindu Nepal, mourning periods last 13 days, during which close family members stay home and relatives visit to pay their respects. Rituals are held on the final day to pray for the souls of the departed.
